NAMING OF A MEMBER Members who disregard the authority of the Chair, or persistently abuse the House's rules, may be 'named' by the Speaker. This is almost the only time an MP is addressed by their own name - and leads to a Motion to suspend the MP in question 'from the service of the House'. If the Motion is carried, the MP will be barred for five sitting days. For a second offence in the same session, suspension lasts 20 days. If a member refuses to leave - and then resists - the suspension will last for the remainder of the session.
